Bookmobile!

Oh, you know you're in the country, when....

...you  have a mobile library that visits your area.

I saw it parked outside the community centre this morning so went inside, joined up, and borrowed a giant cookbook from which I will be making a caramel mudcake. If it works well, you'll see it on the blog. :-)

Damp(er)

The weather has been cooler and occasionally damp overnight of late, making it perfect weather for setting things on fire.
Our bonfire pile has been building all year, and it was high time it ceased to exist!

So, the other day I spent seven hours dragging branches around and setting them alight and making lots of ash. Yay!

Towards the end the huge pile of glowing coals couldn't be resisted, and flashbacks to school cook-outs resulted in damper being made.

I got it twisted around some sticks and planted in the ground, but it took a *long* time to cook! And of course, it tried to burn on the one side while staying raw on the other.....

Next time, I'll have a better technique. But it was fun, even if the end product tasted a little of ash...
