...only works when you have sensible birds.
Not birds who do silly things like squeeze in through the bolt-hole on a gate...

Poor juvenile kooky (you can tell by the pale lower beak, and beige-coloured head) had hopped into the piggy run through the hole around the bolt in the gate, and couldn't find his way back out.
So, we went to help him find his way out, and I managed to get a very nice clear photo of him.
Aren't they beautiful birds? :-)

...After a few false starts the little fellow eventually found his way out, and sat high up in a gum tree...

Vote #1 for Boris!

Our guinea pig Boris, being the enterprising fellow that he is, has decided to become a gardener.
So, he has entered the Yates Spring Vegie Challenge.
His posts can be found here- just click on the title of the post, and if you'd like to help him out, press the lovely green 'vote' button!
You can also leave encouraging comments for him, if you wish- he's new to this growing-his-own vegies, so could probably do with some morale boosting.
He plans to post a new entry every week or so, to keep his public up-to-date.
Stay tuned!

Kookaburra sits in the old gum tree..... many Merry Merry Kings of the Bush can you see....?

...and now?

Here's some crops of photos taken over the course of several days, whenever I happen to spot the Kookaburras from the windows...
The fellow in the top left corner sat there in the rain on the boulder, looking for all the world like a little penguin. (They normally choose the low-hanging branch over the lawn, but it was already occupied.)

We think there's definitely one pair, and maybe youngsters tagging along (one went to feed another)

They like to sit high up- on posts, tree branches, and the Hills Hoist -, and pounce down on unsuspecting worms from their perch.
